Overview

Mer-Made's controller line is branded PoolLink and produced by Link Automation, which the brochures identify as a division of Mer-Made Filter located in Ramsey, New Jersey. The PoolLink 100 Series and 1000 Series are microprocessor chemical treatment controllers for commercial pools and spas that automate control of pH and ORP/ppm. Both use proportional dosing (continuous monitoring and correction based on measured demand), three-level EZLink menus (EZ, User and Service), keypad entry with an LCD readout, and retain alarm values and settings through a power loss without a battery. The 1000 Series adds temperature display, separate adjustable mixing times for pH and sanitizer (Dynamic Proportional Mix Compensated control), a schedulable alternative chlorination setpoint, and, on the PoolLink 1300, remote monitoring through SiteLink PC software over a phone line or RS-232.

The PoolLink 200 Series is a CO2 feed system for pH control. It is offered in single-tank (CO2 201), dual-tank (CO2 202), three-tank (CO2 203) and dual-tank auto-changeover (CO2 204) configurations, each with a wall-mounted ABS feed unit containing a 10 to 100 SCFH flowmeter, 120 V solenoid valve and on/off switch, cylinder regulators with 0 to 100 psi discharge pressure, an injection valve with built-in check valve and CO2 diffuser, and 50 ft of polyethylene tubing. The manufacturer states the system eliminates handling of strong acids and the possibility of forming chlorine gas in the filter room.

The Link 300 and 500 Series are described on the product page as transmitters offering communications, PID control options and proactive sensor maintenance for water treatment engineers. Link Automation also lists FilterLink filter backwash controllers for single or multi-tank systems, LevelLink water level controllers, and probe chambers; no separate specifications for these were found on mermade.com.

Is this a fit for your facility?

Usually a fit when

  • Commercial pools and spas needing automated pH and sanitizer (ORP or ppm) control with proportional dosing.
  • Facilities that want to replace acid feed with CO2 for pH control (200 Series).
  • Operators who want remote monitoring of controller settings and history (1000 Series with SiteLink).

Ideal facilities and conditions: Automatic pH and ORP/ppm control; CO2 pH control; Filter backwash sequencing (FilterLink); Water level control (LevelLink).

Problems it addresses

Key capabilities and benefits

Capabilities

  • Proportional dosing based on measured demand, selectable to set-point or manual feed (100 Series).
  • Three-level EZLink menu structure with keypad entry and LCD display of pH, ORP and Cl/ppm (100 Series) plus temperature (1000 Series).
  • Settings and alarm values retained through power loss with no battery; built-in self tests and diagnostics.
  • 100 Series: (2) switched, fused 120 VAC outlets, 6 A cumulative; ABS NEMA 12 enclosure with hinged cover.
  • 200 Series CO2 feed: 10-100 SCFH flowmeter, 0-100 psi regulators, single, dual, three-tank and auto-changeover options.
  • 1000 Series: adjustable mixing times for pH and sanitizer (DPMC), schedulable alternative chlorination setpoint, PC remote access (PoolLink 1300).

Operational and buyer benefits

  • Manufacturer states operators often see chemical use reductions of 20% to 40% with the 100 Series and more than 30% with the 1000 Series.
  • Manufacturer states the 200 Series CO2 system cannot lower pH below 6.8 and improves pH stability by raising total alkalinity.

Specifications are summarized from manufacturer literature and depend on configuration. Confirm current values with FreyTech before design.

Installation requirements and retrofit considerations

Prerequisites

  • 120 VAC 60 Hz supply; the 100 Series requires a GFCI source.
  • pH and ORP probes with a sample/probe chamber, plus chemical feed pumps or a CO2 supply cylinder (CO2 not included with the 200 Series).

Retrofit and replacement notes

  • The 200 Series CO2 system is offered as a replacement for acid feed on existing pools, with multi-cylinder manifolds and auto change-over options.

Integration with other equipment

No equipment integrations are documented for this product. Coordination happens through the design team.

Automatic chemical and backwash controllers (PoolLink): frequently asked questions

What is proportional dosing?

Per the manufacturer, proportional dosing is continuous monitoring with incremental treatment based on the water's measured demand, as opposed to simple set-point control; the brochures state it gives more precise and economical treatment.

Does the 200 Series replace acid feed?

The manufacturer describes the 200 Series as a CO2 feed system that eliminates handling of strong acids and forms carbonic acid and a bicarbonate buffer in the water, making it impossible to lower pH below 6.8.
