Pool Surfaces and Membranes

A pool's surface and its surrounding deck are what bathers and staff actually touch, and they take the steadiest abuse in the facility: constant immersion, UV, chlorine, foot traffic, and freeze-thaw cycles in outdoor pools. Reinforced PVC membrane systems are one answer, applied over a structural shell finished with tile, paint, plaster, or steel, in place of a re-plaster or re-tile cycle. A companion deck membrane addresses the surrounding walkway, which fails on its own schedule and by its own mechanisms.

Facilities usually reach this category in one of two moments: a renovation where the existing tile, paint, plaster, or steel finish has reached the end of its service life and the owner wants a cost-effective alternative to full re-finishing, or a new-construction project where the design team specifies a membrane system from the start. Either way, the surface decision affects color, slip resistance, and the facility's re-finishing cycle for years.

FreyTech's role is to help a facility or design team understand what a membrane system is, where it fits against a renovation's real constraints, and to coordinate supply and installation with the manufacturer and the design team. FreyTech represents Infinity Pool Surface and Infinity Deck by CGT for New York facilities; product facts in this category come from the manufacturer's own literature.

Common facility applications

  • Municipal and school pools renovating an aging surface
  • Hotel, resort, and club pools refreshing appearance without a full shell rebuild
  • New-construction pools where the design team specifies a membrane system
  • Pool decks needing a slip-resistant, renewable surface indoors or outdoors

Selection considerations

What to decide before choosing equipment

Renovation vs. new construction

A renovation typically applies the membrane over an existing shell finished with tile, paint, plaster, or steel; new construction specifies it from the start. Confirm which path your project is on before comparing products.

Color and finish

Confirm the manufacturer's published color range and surface finish (for example smooth or antislip) against the program's appearance and safety needs.

Warranty and service life

Ask what the manufacturer's published warranty covers and for how long, and what water chemistry the warranty assumes.

Deck and pool surface together

Where both the pool surface and the surrounding deck are being renovated, confirm whether the manufacturer offers a matched deck membrane.

Approvals

Surface and membrane changes are typically part of a larger renovation scope; plan health-department and engineer review alongside the rest of the project (6-1.8).

What we do around the equipment

  • Helping a facility or design team understand membrane systems and where they fit in a renovation
  • Coordinating supply and installation with the manufacturer and the design team
  • Reviewing manufacturer operator-care guidance against the facility's water chemistry program

Filtration

Filtration removes the particles that chemistry cannot.

Deck Equipment

Deck equipment is what swimmers, coaches, and lifeguards touch every day: starting platforms, lane lines and reels, bulkheads that reconfigure a competition pool, guard chairs, ladders and rails, water polo goals, diving stands, lighting, and covers.
