BECSys5 automated water-chemistry controls

Measurement, control, alarms, records, and secure remote visibility for commercial pools, installed and supported in New York State by FreyTech, a listed BECS Technology distributor.

Problems solved

What changes when the controller is doing its job

No one knows what the water is doing after hours

Remote dashboards, email and text alarms, and trend graphs replace the drive to the pump room. Operators, supervisors, and facilities directors each see what they need.

Chemistry drifts under load

Continuous pH and ORP control, with optional direct free-chlorine PPM control, holds setpoints through practices, meets, lessons, and open swims instead of catching up the next morning.

Records are a scramble

One year of readings at one-minute resolution and one year of events are stored on the controller. Reports in BECSys Live summarize readings, alarms, and setpoint changes for review.

Feed equipment runs without safeguards

No-flow feed lockout, programmable failsafe overfeed timers, sanitizer lockout on pH alarm, and an emergency-off function are built in. The optional ChemLock adds an independent, UL 508A-approved interlock.

The equipment room is a black box

Optional monitoring of system flow, pressures, vacuum, chemical inventory, tank levels, and turnover, plus optional control of VFDs, UV, ozone, heaters, and makeup water, brings the rest of the room onto one screen.

One person holds all the knowledge

Three-level access codes, logged parameter changes, documented setpoints, and hands-on training from FreyTech mean the system survives staff turnover.

These records supplement, not replace, New York's required daily operation record.

Equipment-room integration

Where the controller sits in the loop

The controller reads a sample stream from the recirculation loop, drives chemical feed with interlocks, and can monitor or control other equipment-room functions depending on configuration.

Commercial pool recirculation loop with chemical control pointsWater leaves the pool through the main drain and gutter, passes the pump and filter, is sampled by the controller's flow cell, receives chemical from the feed system, is heated, and returns to the pool. The controller reads the flow cell and drives the feeder; a remote user views the controller over the network.PoolPumpFilterFlow cellpH · ORP · ClBECSys5measure · control · logChemicalfeedPulsar / pumpsHeaterRemoteBECSys LiveRecirculationSample lineControl signalNetwork

Upgrade and modernization scenarios

Four common starting points

  1. Replace an obsolete controller

Discontinued models, failing electronics, no communications. A BECSys5 typically installs on the existing sample loop and feed equipment, with new probes and a machined flow cell.

You receive: Like-for-like replacement, usually 1–2 days on site.

  2. Add remote visibility to a working system

Older BECS or other controllers that control adequately but cannot be seen remotely. Upgrade to BECSys5 for Ethernet, alarms, logging, and BECSys Live.

You receive: Alarm recipients, dashboards, and report access configured.

  3. Integrate a renovated mechanical room

Pump, VFD, filter, UV, or heater replacements in a capital project. Define the point list so the controller monitors and, where appropriate, controls the new equipment.

You receive: Point list, sequence of operation, submittals.

  4. Standardize across several pools

Districts, campuses, Ys, and municipalities with multiple bodies of water. One controller per pool, one BECSys Live account for the whole portfolio.

You receive: Consistent setpoints, alarm policy, and training.

Installation, commissioning, training, local support

How FreyTech delivers a BECSys5

Installed by FreyTech's own technicians and supported from our Monroe County office. The controller is only as good as the sample loop, the commissioning, and the people trained to run it.

  1. Assessment

Sample line, flow cell location, feed equipment, electrical, network access, and storage are reviewed on site. We identify anything that would undermine a new controller.

  2. Configuration

Standard and optional sensors, relays, communications, and interfaces are specified against your point list. Submittals provided to your engineer when required.

  3. Installation

FreyTech technicians mount the controller and flow cell, connect feed outputs and interlocks, and bring the network online. Work is scheduled around the pool calendar.

  4. Commissioning

Probes calibrated against manual tests, setpoints and alarm limits entered, failsafe timers and no-flow lockout verified, alarm delivery tested to each recipient, and a settings record left with you.

  5. Training

Operators learn daily checks, calibration, alarm response, and BECSys Live. Supervisors learn access levels and reports. Written procedures are left on site.

  6. Support

Phone support, preventive maintenance visits for calibration and probe replacement, and BECS warranty coordination. Remote diagnostics through BECSys Live reduce site visits.

BECSys5 frequently asked questions

Do we need a separate controller for each pool?

Yes. A BECSys5 controls one body of water. Facilities with a lap pool, therapy pool, and spa typically install one controller per pool and view them together in BECSys Live.

Does BECSys5 replace daily testing and operating records in New York?

No. Under 10 NYCRR 6-1.11 and 6-1.21, manual DPD testing and the State's daily operation record remain required. The controller's one-year log and BECSys Live reports supplement those records and make them easier to verify. The State code allows electronic monitoring 'in addition to the test kit' (6-1.29 item 11.8).

Is BECSys5 NSF/ANSI 50 certified?

BECS Technology's technical data sheet states BECSys5 is NSF Certified and Listed to NSF/ANSI Standard 50 and ETL Listed to UL 61010-1. We can provide the listing documentation for your engineer or health department.

Can it control free chlorine directly rather than by ORP?

Yes, with the optional free-chlorine (PPM) sensor. Many facilities control on ORP with a PPM sensor for monitoring; others control directly on PPM. We recommend the approach based on your water, bather load, and operator preferences.

What does remote access cost?

BECS states that BECSys Live is included with BECSys5 with no additional fees or monthly subscription. Your facility's internet connection and network policy are the only requirements.

Can alarms go to more than one person?

Yes. The controller sends email and text-message alarm notifications through its Ethernet connection, and BECSys Live shows alarm status remotely. We set up the recipient list and escalation during commissioning.

Can BECSys5 talk to our building management system?

Optional Modbus TCP/IP, BACnet, Metasys N2, and LonWorks interfaces are available. Integration scope is defined with your controls contractor during design.

How long does a replacement take?

A like-for-like controller replacement on an existing flow cell and feed equipment is typically completed in one to two days of on-site work, followed by a stabilization period and operator training. Adding sensors, relays, or new feed equipment extends the scope.

What happens if the internet goes down?

The controller keeps controlling. Local control, interlocks, and logging run on the controller itself; remote visibility resumes when the connection returns.

How does FreyTech support the system after installation?

Commissioning documentation, operator training, phone support, preventive maintenance visits for calibration and probe replacement, and warranty coordination with BECS. FreyTech is listed by BECS Technology as its New York distributor.
